More from the artist:
My name is Tanis Meyers. I have appreciated, studied, and supported artists, and have made art throughout my life.
In the past, I had the pleasure of owning a consignment store for many years that featured local Artists and Makers. During that time, the visual merchandising of eclectic and quickly changing merchandise brought me lots of joy and a way to communicate with my customers. It served as a living art project and a way to give Artists and Makers a venue to show their work.
In 2019, I decided to actively start creating art pieces again. My New Year’s resolution was to challenge myself to get back into my studio at least 10 minutes a day, and it all started growing from there. By April of that year, I was entering my first show, thanks to InterUrban Art House and their 12”x12” Show. During this time, I have been focusing on Fiber Art, which has always been a passion. The textures, colors, and sculpting are exciting to me. I do mix custom paint colors for the canvases I mount the pieces on, so I get to keep my brushes in the paints and sometimes include made or found objects.
*Fun fact: The yarn, stones, and found objects that I use have been collected by me over 30+ years, some purchased as needed to compliment pieces I am working on, gathered for me by friends, family, and strangers. So, my collection of supplies and design elements are always changing and helps inspire the pieces I make. I love having this support and these contributions to my creations, it makes them more colorful and more interesting than I could design on my own.
